Advantages of cylinder liner

Cylinder bush is one of the important and practical parts in combustion engines that has its own uses. This part must have high strength to withstand the pressure caused by combustion, which can go up to 50 bar. Therefore, it is necessary to use raw materials with high strength and ability to withstand the pressure caused by the combustion process. The piston rings are in direct contact with the cylinder bushing, therefore, the cylinder bushing must be well lubricated to prevent friction between the piston rings and the cylinder bushing. The inner surface forms a space where the piston moves back and forth, and the outer surface is in contact with the cylinder block.

In all cylinders, lubrication is one of the most vital parts. Without engine oil and lubrication, the engine will fail in general. There are different oils to lubricate the cylinder bush, the engine oil used in cars is poured from the oil tank into the cylinder for the lubrication process.

Due to the processes that occur inside the cylinder bush, its temperature rises sharply, therefore, a cooling liquid is needed to reduce the temperature of the bush. This cooling process takes place inside engines and cylinder liners by the coolant, which is water. In some bushings, there is a space between the cylinder and the cylinder bushing for the circulation and flow of water, which is called water circulation.

Another advantage of the cylinder bush is its easy portability and low cost. If the amount of wear by the pistons increases, the surface of the bush will be corroded and the gases will be released from between the piston rings and the combustion process will have problems. For this reason, it is necessary for the cylinder bush to be placed in the inner space of the cylinder because it is easier to move and the price is more reasonable. At the same time, the cylinder bushings have better alloys than the cylinder block itself, and therefore they are more durable. And in general, in order to increase engine performance and more and longer efficiency, it is necessary to use a cylinder bush with a special alloy and high strength.

Cylinder bushings are produced and made from gray cast iron, which is made from alloys such as chrome, molybdenum and vanadium to have more quality and tolerance. The main reason for using cast iron as a base alloy is that due to the presence of graphite in its composition, it has good lubricating properties. Also, the cylinder bushings must have high resistance so that they can withstand the high temperature resulting from combustion in the cylinder chamber.
